Loveland Tall Tees N Tacos!

I know, I know, update way long overdue!  I promise to have a post summarizing my whole season soon, but for now, let me tell you about my day yesterday!

Saturday, April 23... Everyone woke up and decided we should all go to Loveland for Tall Tees N Tacos, a slopestyle competition.  Adrian gave Red Gerard a call and asked him if he wanted to go too, and we went to pick him up in Sam Elliot's car (his car's name is Gertrude, by the way).

It was actually SNOWING!  There was a chain law in effect for semi trucks on the way to the tunnels, it was slick out but we made it to Loveland.  We all hurriedly registered so we could get some practice runs in and see what the set up was like.  When I did this same competition a month ago, I came kinda late and had no practice runs but I still ended up winning!  This set up was similar to last month's, but with the addition of two new boxes, a dance box and a roller coaster.  The jumps were also constructed much better and were so fun to hit!

For the first hit, you have the choice of a big pole jam or a jump; second hit was one big jump and one small jump.  Third hit were two boxes to pick from, a flat-down box and a flat box that was high up, you had to really ollie to get on it.  Then after those boxes, you can either hit a hip, rollercoaster box, dance box, c-box, or a corrugated tube.

The most challenging thing about the set up were the jumps.  The landings were so bumpy from people pretty much stopping or side-slipping down after they landed.  Ugh!  I still landed no problem though so that was great.

Wahoo's provided a free burrito lunch for all the competitors, it snowed all day with the sun peeking out at times, and there were good vibes all around.

I decided to keep it clean on the boxes, no circus tricks.  I normally would had spun like crazy on boxes, but this time I did a frontboard on the flat-down and the judges were freaking out, "WOO that was PROPER!" I was so excited to hear that because I've been working on properrrr front boards!

After a long waiting, we were all done.  It was a two run format and there were 100 competitors!  We headed down to the lodge for awards, and there was a raffle!  People got things like Skullcandy headphones, concert tickets, hats, beanies, etc.  After the raffle, they started announcing winners.  There's a lot of categories, like womens snowboard age 11-20, mens snowboard 15-20, womens snowboard 21 and up, et cetra.  Myself being an old fart at 22 years old, I was in the 21 and up category.  They announced the winner for mens snowboard groms and Red Gerard WON!  He got a Never Summer snowboard, then came the 15-20 year old mens snowboard.  Sam Elliot WON!  Then finally the women were announced.  They started out with 10 and under, but I don't think the winner was there to claim her prize or there weren't any 10 and under girls?  Then came the 11-20... I waited and waited for the 21 and up to see how I did.  After the 11-20 winners were announced, they went straight to mens.  I thought, "um, okay... Maybe they will announce womens 21 and up later."

After all the mens were done, the announcer said, "Thanks for coming out!" I was like WTF?!  I ran up and asked what happened to the womens 21 and up winners??  There were also a bunch of other 21 and up girls, so we all definitely should had placed.  The announcer quickly ran back with prizes and freaked out, "OH I'M SORRY I FORGOT THE 21 AND UP GIRLS!" I breathed a sigh of relief and watched him announce really fast, trying to read his lips to see if he says my name (Adrian usually helps me but he ran to the bathroom).  I saw him say, "And for first place, Lauren Weibert!" YAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!  I won!  I won a Never Summer Pandora!

Myself and Sam Elliot with our boards we won

It was such a fun competition and I've won the last three Tall Tees N Tacos now!  Woo hoo, three-peat win, haha!

Today is Easter day, so happy Easter!!!!  It's also Breckenridge's closing day, sad!  I will be spending my Easter on the slopes at Breck, so you all have a great day!
