VAIL
2 days ago, the boyfriend and I headed to Vail. It was a nice change after riding Copper so much, haha. It had snowed a bit, like wet snow, but it was still powdery. We finally got to the top by 10am, damn gondola lines, and even then, there was still a lot of untracked powder. OH YEAH! We slayed that shit in the bowls and found even more untracked powder as we kept going all over Vail. It was a pretty grand time. We were on a lift and we saw a cliff that my b/f wanted me to drop. It was a little bigger than the cliffs I were dropping previously, so probably 20-25 ft. My b/f said it was definitely at least 20ft. He went first, landed fine and rode off. I was kinda sketched out because I would had been more comfortable if I scoped it out first, but whatever. I figured if the b/f did it and was OK, I should be ok. Hahahaha. I hate hitting shit the first time without scoping them out. I went for it, saw where he landed, and landed in the exact same spot. I felt myself bounce after I landed it, damn! I got to try that again. We also dropped a cornice, and that was really cool, hahaha, a bunch of people were standing there, looking down, and my b/f and I just blasted right by them and flew off the ledge. We dropped some other cliffs down that way too, just having some fun and enjoying the powder.
I'm pretty happy that I went for the first cliff at Vail, especially after riding in the midwest for 6 years. That's the reason I moved out here, I wanted to be able to ride powder and more all over the mountain and get better at it. I'm very happy to say I've improved on my powder riding, I'm a lot more relaxed and don't worry about sinking anymore. I also drop cliffs now! Ahhhhh! When I was starting out snowboarding, I NEVER imagined that I would do this stuff eventually. It's a pretty awesome feeling! I feel like I'm progressing SO much out here in Colorado after a 2 year... um.... what's the word.... snowboard block? Haha. Like a writer's block. Yeah. Not like a tailblock, no. I'm progressing every day, all the time, whether it's in the park or in the bowls. I would like to be able to do bigger cliffs and of course, ride more powder. Isn't Feb the month when it snows a shitload?? BRING IT ON!
KIA
Yesterday, my b/f and I loaded the Kia, our most awesome mountain car, and headed out to Keystone. We stopped at a gas station, got a full tank of gas, and headed up. We were on 70, and right after we passed the Morrison exit, the Kia died on us. Bastard car!! It was scary, it was still dark (like 6:10am) and we were on the shoulder on a sharp curve. Semis and cars passed by us really close; for some reason, when people do inside turns, they like to go into the shoulder. The Kia totally crapped out on us, it wouldn't start. I think the b/f blew the engine, hahaha. At least now we don't need to worry about that upcoming oil change. We can now mark "Drive Kia into the ground" off our list. Sheriff John Brown came along, and stopped behind us with his lights on. I watched traffic to see how much can a cop with his blinkies and woowoos on fuck it up so much. Everyone slowed down significantly, but it wasn't a parking lot. Last time there was a fucking cop with his lights on in this same spot, everyone fucking STOPPED.
The cop was really cool, made sure we called a tow truck and shit, and of course, it's Sunday, so the Kia dealership is closed. Damn, no free towing. Yeah, the Kia is still under warranty! Hahaha. Cop gave us a ride in the back of his car to a gas station, and people gave funny looks when we crawled out of the back. We waited for the tow truck driver, and apparently he would be there "any minute". He calls back, and we find out he's off 470, not 70. Nice. 5-10 mins later, he's here. Sweet ass. We hopped in and he drove us to the fallen hero, the Kia. The tow guy didn't fuck around at all, he got the Kia on the flatbed really fast. Last time we had to get the Kia towed (the wheel lock was stuck), the other guy took foreverrrrr. He took us home and dropped off the Kia here. I can see it sitting in the road, dead, and my Focus taunting it. I think we'll just get it fixed under warranty, then.... NEW CAR!!!!!!!!!!
