Wow, the last few months of 2014 certainly flew by. Being a full-time student and also working and snowboarding definitely keeps one extremely busy. I ended 2014 on a really good note.... I got my final grades.... all A's!!! WOW!!! I never, ever had grades that good in my middle and high school years. Even during my first year of college at CSUN, my grades were mediocre. Only one semester of credits from CSUN transferred to CMC, where I now attend school. That's Colorado Mountain College and it is awesome! My final grades made all that going crazy from stress totally worth it. I was a full time student taking four classes but now I am only taking two classes this semester so I can focus more on snowboarding and DEAFLYMPICS!
I have been given the honor of representing the United States for the 18th Winter Deaflympics in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. RUSSIA! It is so awesome to me that I have earned this opportunity and I am extremely excited about it. I have a gofundme page over at http://www.gofundme.com/eyv9jg
Additionally, I have a fundraising jar at Rocky Mountain Coffee Roasters in Frisco, Colorado for those who are in the area who would rather donate to that. There is also a raffle for a GNU B-Nice 148 snowboard!
A regular customer who is always in the coffee shop told me he wants to donate a Helly Hansen jacket for the raffle too!!! HOW COOL!!!!! I will have separate raffle boxes for each item so people can choose which item they want to try to win! It's so amazing to have the support of my community!
Tickets will be drawn after President's Weekend in February.
Anyways, with that little advertising for my fundraiser out of the way, I'd like to do a year in review!
January
- Spent the whole month recovering from my knee surgery and doing physical therapy
![]() | |
| The recovery was brutal! That full-leg brace sucked! |
- Also got a new tattoo! I wanted to focus the pain away from that stupid knee!
- Started using crutches less and less... went down to one crutch then no crutches!
- Got cleared to snowboard on Feb 24!!

Post-doctor visit selfie! SO HAPPY! - Went snowboarding for the first time at Copper Mountain on the 25th (see blog post about that here)

First day riding!!! EVEN HAPPIER!!!!!!!
- My dad and younger sister came out for Spring Break! We rode at Copper and also took a day trip to Glenwood Hot Springs... so awesome! They really enjoyed it! Dad wasn't even mad about my new tatttoo... ha!
- Hiked to Radium Hot Springs to celebrate Cobie's birthday!!

Birthday boy! - Cobie got me some snowshoes and we started snowshoeing!

- May was both a sad and exciting month for me. My two awesome roommates, best friends and best supporters moved away to Hawaii to start a new life. I freakin cried when Cobie and I got in the car and drove away from the Willowbrook House for good.

The last photo I took of Willowbrook, where we lived previously - At the same time, Cobie and I moved into a new place together!

Welcome to... STABBIN' CABIN!!!!! - We continued to snowboard!
- My awesome mom gave me the opportunity to go on a cruise to ALASKA with her.... OF COURSE I SAID YES! We went to Alaska at the end of May... what an experience!
Glacier Bay in Alaska!
June
- Not much happened this month... I celebrated my birthday by going for a hike off Hoosier Pass with Cobie and it was really nice.
- June 18th, the day after my birthday, we drove to Aspen for Cobie's knee surgery... here we go again!!! Apparently he had torn his ACL a few years ago and that's why his knee was constantly popping out. It was time to get that shit fixed. His surgery was on the 19th.
- The first few days after surgery always suck, but Cobie got through it, RAWR! He was actually able to drive himself back to Aspen on June 27th for a post-op check up...
- ...MEAWHILE.... on this same say, June 27th, I went to the Summit County Animal Shelter and adopted our new best friend!!!!!!! Cobie was so excited to meet her that he came back home the same day from Aspen!

Gypsy's first day home! Look how skinny my legs are, ugh. Lost so much muscle when I tore my knee.
July
- Not too much happened in July... Cobie focused on his recovery and absolutely killed it.
- Cobie was bored not being able to do anything so on a whim, he decided to get a kayak. I drove him to Edwards to get the kayak, it was supposed to be an 8 foot kayak but it turned out to be a monster of a 13 ft kayak! My truck bed is only 6 ft! Hahaha. We got it secured and I drove slowly back to Summit.
Me looking pretty in Cobie's kayak. I got another tattoo, hence the t-shirt on. New tat problemz. - With the kayak in tow, the three of us hit up the lake a lot. Lake Dillon, to be exact. Gypsy LOVES it and she learned to swim! She is one goofy dog!

Gypsy going for a dip!
August
- My ma came out to visit again!!!!!!!! I was SO excited to see my mother for the third time in a year! She came out with her boyfriend Thomas too! They stayed at the local RV Park, Tiger Run, in their motorhome which is right down the road from me!
- My mom rode in the bed of my pick up truck at one point, and I quote her, "I am 50 and I just rode in a pick up truck bed!" Haaaaa!!! She's a trooper!
- I also REGISTERED FOR CLASSES... OH MY GOODNESS! I was so happy that my mom was there and was so willing to help me with that! Talk about last minute registering! I think my classes actually started a week later.
- Gypsy got a taste of what it was like to be a service dog.... she did GREAT!!!!!
September
- September was a blur. I honestly don't remember much. I really dove into school. The first semester was so stressful as I had not been in school for 6 years but I quickly got into the swing of things.
- I mostly spent September hiking and exploring while waiting for WINTER!
October
- I got the wonderful news I was selected to join the USA Deaf Snowboard Team for the upcoming 2015 Winter Deaflympics in Russia! WOW! What great news, considering that I missed tryouts last year due to my torn knee... I did send in a resume and a video. I filmed that video in like, March.... barely a month after I got cleared to snowboard. I remember being in a lot of pain and I wasn't able to do much but I did my best and it ended up being worth it! This is my second time being selected on the team... the first time was the 2011 Deaflympics in Slovakia which, unfortunately, got canceled due to organizational failures. Either way, SUPER EXCITING NEWS!
- It is confirmed that Lil Miss Texas Gypsy absolutely loves snow! WHEW!

BAM! SNOW!
November
- November 27th was GYPSY'S BIRTHDAY!!!!!! She turned ONE! She was estimated to be 7 months old when I adopted her on June 27th, so we picked Nov 27th for her birthday :P

HaPpY BiRtHdAy GyPsY!!!!!!
- We went to Aspen for Thanksgiving... it was a nice dinner and it was awesome seeing friends, but it sucked that some of our friends bailed on getting us tickets... oh well. It happens. We did get to stop at Beaver Creek though and that was FUN!
- First semester DONE.... Straight A's!!!! Made the Dean's List! One A- though.... UGH..... 3.925 GPA... ALMOST A 4.0! Darn it! That A- was from a computer class... I learned that Excel sucks. Suuuuuuuuuucks.
- Christmas!!!! So funny, I let Cobie open one gift early and I opened one too, from my mom.... Cobie held up his gift high, an axe, and screamed, "YEAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" I got good kitchen knives from my mother... and I also held them up, "YEAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" We love sharp things.
