Copper and Keystone are now open for the season! I'm so excited Copper is open because now I can snowboard in the mornings on the days I have to work. I work in Frisco, and it's just way easier to lap Copper in the morning then head back to Frisco.
I was kind of bummed though- I heard that my season pass I get at Copper went up in price... by a hundred bucks! Say whaaaaaat? I had to find out through another friend who got her pass a few days before opening day. I could not find ANYTHING on the website about it, the only thing I found was something about an adaptive race, but it does list the pass price for $100. It's at this page: http://www.coppercolorado.com/winter/events/event80 and you gotta really look for it, it is hidden in there. I printed that out and highlighted where it says $100, and note that it does not say what year. I know the pass for sure was $100 last year because I got mine last year and I was definitely expecting it to be $100 again this year.
I'm just really disappointed because there was no notification about this, it was unexpected. Vail Resorts has an awesome email system in place where they email all adaptive passholders with new pass prices and the options (the one thing that bothers me is that they offer a Tahoe-only adaptive pass for way cheaper, but no Colorado-only pass... I may have to ask about that). Copper did no such thing, and I think that the $100 increase is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, $200 is still cheap, but there is no reason to jack up the price so much because that pass still only works at Copper, it does not include Winter Park. Copper also hasn't opened new terrain. Breckenridge just added a whole another peak, and my Vail Adaptive pass price only went up $10, and I can access a ridiculous amount of ski resorts with that pass.
Anyways, I had that web page printed out, brought it in the office, and said my usual, "Hello, I'm deaf, I would like to buy an adaptive pass, please." and I showed them the page and pointed at the highlighted sentence and said, "This one, please." I was so nice about it and respectful and also expressed my disappointment in how there was no knowledge of this. The lady tried to help me with it, but ultimately in the end, this other lady told me there was "nothing they could do." They had NO CLUE why the price went up, and I asked if Copper opened more terrain, and I shit you not, they said, "I don't know." Really? You work in guest services at the base of Copper and don't know? And also, this whole "nothing they can do" is BULLSHIT. I was staring at this dude in the back, and I remembered him.
His name is Scot Wilson, and back when I was with my no-good ex, I remember my ex talked to Scot, probably bullshitting him, saying that I was going to the Deaflympics (that part was true) and that he was my coach (not true), and we wanted to "train at Copper" blah blah blah. That guy offered us two passes for $100. So this whole thing about "can't do anything" is an absolute lie. Whatever, I didn't bring it up, and I ponied up the extra $100 for the stupid pass and THEY DIDN'T EVEN TAKE A NEW PICTURE! GAH! They just reused my photo from last year from my $100 pass... touche, you sneaky bastards, touche.
Whatever, as soon as I took my first run, I was over it. It was fun, the snow was great, and there were two parks that were empty. It still irks me though that there was no notification about the price increase. PLEASE, COPPER, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, POST THAT SHIT SO FUTURE BUYERS KNOW.
