A lot has happened in the last six days.
I had my first physical therapy session today.
I also had my post op appointment a few days prior.
Friday, December 13th. Sasha and I hit the road to the doctor's office in Golden. It was snowing and I-70 was covered in snow. Sasha navigated the highway effortlessly, the snow did not faze her. She breezed past people in the left lane, middle lane, and in the right lane, going 60 mph and we didn't even bat an eyelash as Jewbaru devoured the thick slush on the roads like it was nothing. We went through the Eisenhower tunnels and the sun and clear roads greeted us on the other side. Of course.
We made it to the doctor's office and only waited like ten minutes in the waiting room before I was called. The doctor came in, took my full leg brace off, said the knee looked good. He asked me to slide my leg, as in bend it. That was a little scary and I was nervous. I went from being told to keep my leg straight at all times to "Go ahead and bend it now!" Crazy. My leg did indeed bend, and he explained to me that I can now bend my leg only up to 90 degrees and I can also put weight on it. I thought he said I was to be on crutches for six weeks, but Sasha said that he said no such thing, it was actually THREE weeks. Oh man, I was stoked after she cleared that up! The doc wrote me up a prescription for physical therapy, and I got fitted with a smaller leg brace. WOOHOO!!!! No more super awkward full-leg brace!
Sasha wanted to stop at Applejack's, a liquor store, to get wine for Christmas gifts and since Applejack's is cheap and probably my only chance to buy brews for a while, I went in and grabbed two sampler 12-packs of beers and wine as well... haha... I'm like Bender from Futurama, I like my beer. We bought like $250 worth of drinks between us, but paid less than $200 for it all! I didn't find Boones Farms, so that was a bummer; I used to buy those at the local liquor store for 99 cents when I lived in Denver (I lived in Five Points). They go for $5 up here in Summit County, people. $5. Wow.
As we started heading back up the mountains, I texted Cobie to see if he arrived to my house. That's right, people, he finally said he would come see me!! I felt like I had been waiting so fucking long to see him. Two weeks, actually. No one else came to visit me during that time. I need new friends.
I always heard when you're hurt, you find out who your true friends are. In that case, it was Sasha and Dillon who helped me out majorly with not only keeping me company, making sure I was comfortable, but with rides to the doctor and stuff. I am really lucky to consider them my friends. As for others, no one visited me, so, uh, I guess it's safe to say they're not my friends. So yeah, I was really bummed and I really wanted the man I love to be here for me. I was also majorly disappointed in Cobie because he and I both know that if something happened to him, I would waste no time in getting there, so why has it taken him two weeks to come see me? Maybe he didn't realize how serious my injury was. I've been trying to downplay it, but wow. This whole knee thing is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
Sasha made a stop at Axis Sports Medicine so I could get all set up with physical therapy. They said the soonest they could see me was Thursday. Fuck. Okay. I made the appointment, and I was super pleased to find out that the receptionist would work with me by texting me instead of the usual phone calls. Sasha highly recommended this place, so it looks like it will be the Axis team who will rebuild me. We finally went home, and not even five minutes after we get in the house, the receptionist texted me and also called Sasha to inform us that a spot had opened up Monday morning at 8am. We agreed to it and set the appointment. Woohoo, PT starts after the weekend!
Cobie pulled into the parking lot literally 10 minutes later and I was so fucking happy. My heart practically soared. He came upstairs to me and I embraced him, tight. I wanted to cry because I had been waiting SO long for him to come see me and at the same time, I was mad it took him this long, AND AND AND I was also really happy. It was a tornado of emotions. I wanted to just sit down with him, and the couch isn't too comfortable for me to sit on so we went to my room and we just laid there. I guess I was still processing the fact that he actually came.
I enjoyed my weekend tremendously with Cobie. He definitely made me happy. He renewed my motivation to work hard and try to heal up. He saw me do my post-op exercises, ice my knee, and deal with the pain. I realized that he helped out a LOT as well- we took a shower together and he held me. I loved that because it is so hard and awkward to shower on one leg while trying to keep the bad leg straight and all that moving around and ugh. He definitely made that easier for me. We also left the house and went out and about- he always opened the car door for me. He stayed near me when I had to navigate icy stairs. He was just really gentlemanly and helped the best he could. I wish that he could have stayed longer than two days but he had to return to Aspen Sunday morning because he had to work. He kept telling me that he didn't want to go and he wanted to stay and help me recover. I guess now he realizes how hard it is for me.
After Cobie left, I was hanging out in the living room with Sasha. She said we should go drink bottomless mimosas at Red Mountain Grill. FABULOUS IDEA! We went there and drank, drank, drank all day. A lady came up and blessed my knee and kissed my cheek, that was interesting. Thanks? I had such a nice time hanging out with Sasha, it's not often that we get to hang out one on one. She is RAD! We went home and continued drinking and finally I went to crash for the night for I had physical therapy the next morning, bright and early.
Today; Monday, December 23. Man.... I was TIRED this morning! I had a busy weekend and there I was, laying in my bed trying to stop my alarm on my phone at 6:45am. I keep hitting that damn snooze button by accident. I made coffee and Sasha took me to Axis.
Man..... lots of scary new things. Ami, my physical therapist, started off by moving my kneecap. Oh god. It actually wasn't bad, the idea of it was worse than the actual thing. She explained that the scar tissue in my meniscus will stick if I don't move my kneecap. Oh god. I had to do all these exercises with my brace off which was terrifying and exciting at the same time. I even put weight on my leg. Big things here. Whew. I was in there for an hour and half, and Sasha scooped me up afterwards. I've been hanging out at home all day since, I am SO freaking tired. My knee is SORE. I have to do this though. I want to get better. I will be rebuilt.
Six weeks and two days until I can snowboard.
